Silhouette Skylines

The 5th graders are learning about skylines right now.  I asked if anyone knew what either a skyline or a silhouette was and no one knew, so we talked about buildings that are important to cities, for example, the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Arch in St. Louis.  I said if you went out of town, what is the first thing you might see if you drove back into Missouri (the Arch).  We looked at some skylines and the students knew immediately what the cities were because of important landmarks (the Twin Towers, the Empire State Building, the Arch, the Eiffel Tower, the London Bridge, the San Francisco bridge, etc.)
